Persian New Romantics (2009) or, what would’ve happened if the Eighties had occurred in Iran?
“Let not sorrow wither the joyful heart
Nor stones of affliction wear away your season of happiness;
Nobody knows the hidden future –
Wine, a lover and enjoying the heart’s desire are all you need.”
Omar Khayyam

In 1979, the Islamic Revolution cut Iran off from the world of Western fashion. This collection imagines what
would’ve happened if the 1980’s had actually taken place in Iran with a revolution of colour, texture and shape.
Graphic and textural influences are used from both cultures as well as references to traditional male garments and
1980’s men’s fashion. Hybrid soft tailoring merges Eastern and Western cutting techniques – in a rhapsody of blue,
orange, olive, nude, brown and yellow ochre draped and panelled garments that have a relaxed sportswear edge.
Exclusive fabric developments with Vanners include striped golden paisley and patchwork midnight blue check silk
jacquard. Silk based fibres and finishes are utilised throughout the collection in fine silk jersey, silk jacquards,
performance synthetic fabrics from Limonta, pearlised ostrich leather and fine gauge knitwear.
Models wear Vintage Christian Dior sunglasses from the collection at ARKHIV and S***R Shoes.
